Ring the Bell for Gnder Equality

Following all Exchanges in the world,  Tunis Stock Exchange organizes the "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality" to celebrate the International Women's Day on March 08 2019.

The event is organized in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Tunisia, the IFC, Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, UN Global Compact and the World Federation of Exchanges and aims to raise awareness of the issue of women's economic empowerment and opportunities for the private sector to advance gender equality and sustainable development.

The theme of International Women's Day, is "Thinking equitably, building smart, innovating for change". It places the innovation of women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality.

For this occasion, the trading session in Tunis Stock Exchange was opened by the famous ringing the bell by the presence  of CEO’s of listed companies,  brokerage firms, the Regulator, the central depository, national and international organizations, as well as representatives of civil society.

Mr. Bilel Sahnoun, CEO of Tunis Stock Exchange, in his opening remarks, highlighted the cost of unrealized potential created by gender inequalities and the under-employment of women's resources in growth and development income. In this regard, he presented the strategy in the three coming years that the Exchange will adopt to promote good sustainable development practices in the market, namely: the publication of a guide model for the extra-financial reporting of listed companies on ESG aspects, the creation of a CSR index, the launch of a green bond segment to finance green projects, the training of members of boards of listed companies on sustainable development issues and the promotion of diversity.

Ms. Begona Lasagabaster, representative of UN Women in Tunisia, said that it is necessary to consider how innovation can help remove barriers and accelerate progress towards gender equality, encourage investing in gender-sensitive social systems; and building services and infrastructure that are responsive to the needs of women and girls.

This year, the theme "Thinking Fair, Building Smart, Innovating for Change" ushered  a future where innovation and technology will open new opportunities for women and girls to play an active role in more inclusive systems, efficient services and sustainable infrastructure that will be used to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals and gender equality.
